Hello, I'm Sheri and I want to welcome you to the farm! Our 60 acres has been a part of my family since 1966 when my parents moved here from St. Louis. I was raised here along with my three siblings. After graduating from Mizzou, I moved to St. Louis where I met and married my husband, George. We started our life together in St. Charles and raised two amazing children, Mckenzie and Garrett.
So how did we end up back at my childhood farm? Coming to this point in our lives was directly influenced by so many things, starting with the elimination of my job in corporate America at the end of 2019. I kicked off 2020 trying to decide what I wanted to do with my career. Shortly thereafter, the entire world was turned upside down with the pandemic. And then just a few months later, we lost both my mom and my mother-in-law. I struggled with grief. I was not only grieving the loss of two amazing women in my life, but I was also still grieving the loss of my job and my identity.
During this time, George and I would go to the farm every weekend, and I would sometimes go during the week. I started a vegetable garden and began tending to all the flowers that my mom had planted around the property. I soon realized just how therapeutic it was for me during my time of grieving to have my hands in the dirt.
In the summer of 2021, we decided to simplify our lives and move to the farm. I still wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my career, but I knew I wasn’t ready to retire. My cousin encouraged me to start a cut flower farm. I visited her farm in Colorado for a week and was hooked. Before I knew it, I was planting 2,000 tulip bulbs and buying seeds.
We are starting our third season and I couldn’t be happier. Flowers bring joy, happiness, and peace. They evoke memories of our own childhood and special occasions. I’m thankful that I’m able to be a part of that and do it from the place that brings me joy, happiness, and peace…our family farm.
